Raw Sacramento
GUIDELINES
FOR POTLUCKS:
Our potlucks are held Monthly usually on the 1st
Sunday. We request that EACH person bring a dish
to with servings for at least 8 people (if there are two of you, bring enough to serve 16).
You are always
welcome to attend without going to the trouble to bring a dish. In such case, we ask
for a contribution of $13.00 per person.
Funds collected are used to partially
cover our expenses of cups, utensils, plates,
phone line, fliers, email & webcosts, etc. (It is ecologically beneficial
to you if you remember to bring your own REUSABLE PLATE and
flatware)! It is monetarily beneficial to the group as
well.
$1 DONATION AT POTLUCKS.
All potluck attendees are requested to make a $1 donation to
contribute to the ongoing expenses of the Raw Sacramento group. Our
expenses include Web
Hosting & Maintenance, plastic ware & plates for those who don't remember
to bring their own to potlucks, etc. You are still welcome
to come to a potluck without bringing a dish for a contribution of just
$13. This is an especially attractive & viable option for new
people. If you are a regular attendee of the potluck and bring
a first-time guest, we'll waive the donation for you and your guest!
GUIDELINES
FOR FOOD:
Please bring raw, organic (at least pesticide/herbicide-free),
vegetarian (vegan -- no animal products). Nothing cooked, steamed,
baked or otherwise heated above 110 degrees (no maple syrup as it is
boiled; no tofu). If in doubt, leave it out. We ask that you
clearly label your dish at the potluck if it contains HONEY (raw, unheated
honey) because some vegans do not eat honey as it is considered an
animal product. Dried fruit (dates, apricots, figs, etc.) blended
with a little water makes an excellent sweetener for recipes.
Agave Nectar is another excellent sweetener. Stevia is perhaps
the best sweetener, and is thought to have a number of healing properties. Should
an item contain nuts and/or seeds, please label each variety and whether
or not it was soaked. Check out Living-Foods.com
for recipes if you haven't taken any raw food preparation classes
yet. Or, look over our own Raw Sacramento
Recipe Page which has over 300 raw recipes. And, again, please remember, you always have the option of
attending without bringing a dish and making a $13 contribution to the
group. If you are bringing fruit, we ask you to not to bring
standard grocery store-bought fruit. We especially welcome seasonal,
locally-grown & organic or at least pesticide-free fruit
which has been "accidentally" picked when ripe. Sometimes such fruit can be found
at Farmer's markets.
(Example: In July & August I bring figs from my own fig
trees. In November, you may have a Persimmon crop. Last Summer
our dear friends Donnetta and Carolyn from Stockton brought something like
200 lbs. of walnuts....enough for everyone to take some home.....some of
which I'm still eating).
