Raw Sacramento's
Yahoo Group New Explanatory material (look for this
color below) Before joining our Yahoo Group, please read this
entire page carefully, Thanks! Raw Sacramento Yahoo Group Have you ever wanted to share some great raw news
with Raw Sacramento subscribers? Have you ever wondered if you could
carpool to an event? Wondered if anyone knew of a good raw-friendly
dentist in town? Wondered whether there was a particularly good deal
anywhere on a Blender or food-processor. Of course you have….these are
merely examples of questions I get all the time. I have generally limited Raw Sacramento’s Event
broadcast emails to no more than 3 in any given month. Many of us don’t
want spam, and we don’t want any more email than we already have to cope
with. But, there are many of you who might like to be more
closely connected to the Raw Sacramento Group. We formed a Raw Sacramento
yahoo group for this reason. You may already be a member of a Yahoo
group. Yahoo Groups offer a club or association a lot of benefits: you
can post messages, and reply to them in a logical threaded fashion. You
can search for old messages (by topic or keyword). (Where did Mark say
you could buy a juicer for $99? Who was that dentist that Pam
recommended?). You can post files and photos. The group comes with
a calendar function, and a polling function to ask the group questions
(Would you want to have a Friday Night Potluck)? It has a member
directory which you can set up to share your contact information or keep
it private.
Raw Seattle has used a Yahoo Group very successfully and happily for
years. Often there are invitations to impromptu raw dinners at member’s
homes. If someone finds a great sale on coconuts or some other raw
staple, they can alert the entire group. There are two sides to a Yahoo Group. The Broadcast
side (which I’ve just been describing) and the reception side, which
offers you several options. You can elect to receive individual emails as
they are posted to the group. Options for receiving messages: All members will have the right to post messages.
There will be some degree of oversight of the group through a group
Moderator. I would like to encourage everyone to join our Raw
Sacramento Yahoo Group. Obligation/Expense to
members: None. If you are too busy for a week, you do
not have to read your messages. If you get too busy or wish to
reduce your emails, you can change to a different messaging option (see
table above). Normal Use: Let's say
you wish to buy a new blender. You post a message asking,
"What is the best blender?" Then, members of the group who
wish to respond, do. Perhaps the following week you have decided to
buy a Vita-Mix. So you post another message, "Where is the cheapest
source for a Vita-mix blender?" User A responds, "I just
bought one for $325 at this website." User B responds,
"That's nothing, I got one for $309 with free shipping from vendor x."
Maybe you want a particular raw recipe. Maybe you noticed that
Durian was on sale somewhere. You could post this message for the
benefit of others: "Saw Durian on sale at SF Market for .59
cents/lb." When, or if you join you will have to create a Yahoo
ID & Password. (This is very standard stuff). If you already have a
Yahoo email, such as my
Jim.Smith@yahoo.com, you have a Yahoo ID….in the example the Yahoo ID
is Jim.Smith. If you wish to be easily reached by other Raw
Sacramento members and you do not already have a Yahoo ID I suggest going
with a Yahoo ID that is similar to your name as in the example
Jim.Smith@yahoo.com. If there is already a Jim.Smith, you could go
with Jim.Smith.Raw. If you wish to maintain your privacy you would be
advised to go with anything creative. Yahoo Groups provides many levels
of privacy. At some point during the installation process you
will be prompted whether you want to install a Yahoo Toolbar. I
recommend you Do NOT install this. If you
find joining our Yahoo Group confusing, daunting, or difficult, please let
us know. There are literally millions of people presently using Yahoo
Groups, and Mark Blackburn is a member of about 15 such groups.
